LWT 43 | Get A Good Night’s Sleep: An Interview with Brendon Bjornson

| June 6, 2012 | 8 Comments

Are you wondering how to get a good night’s sleep tonight by turning off your “mind switch?”  How can  the teachings of Eckhart Tolle help you get a deep, consistent sleep so that you have the energy and focus to fulfill your work and family responsibilities?

Brendon Bjornson

In this episode of the Living With Tolle Podcast, we were joined by Brendon Bjornson, “The Sleep Guru,” who has helped over 25,000 people to de-stress, sleep better, and find themselves again.

In our interview, Brendon shares that 1 in 5 Americans have seen a medical doctor about their sleep problems. Millions more suffer alone, even spiritual folks like us. People often lay awake at night, tormented by their To-Do’s lists, financial worries, planning and preparing for the endless “what if” situations that could derail their lives and make their unspeakable fears come true. Just as disconcerting is how guilty they feel while replaying past conversations and the regretful lists of would’a, should’a, could’as.

Here are some highlights of the conversation:

  • The real reason why people have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep
  • How to flip the “OFF” switch in your head
  • Why good sleep is the foundation of being more Present during the day
  • The spiritual nature of deep sleep, and why lack of sleep leads to insanity
  • How sleep deprivation fuels the Vicious Cycle of ego and pain-body caused suffering, and how to break free
  • Why you need to take a body, mind, spirit approach to your sleep problems, in order to get a lasting solution.

Meditation and spiritual awakening is a luxury that seems elusive to the sleep deprived. If this is you, then Brendon invites you to address first things first, by learning how to get handle the sleep challange in your life. This will allow you to be more present, energized and focused to fulfill your work and family responsibilities.

About our guest:

Brendon Bjornson, “The Sleep Guru,” has helped over 25,000 people to de-stress, sleep better and find themselves again.

Brendon had a profound Awakening experience while attending a live talk with Eckhart Tolle in 2001. When he sat with Eckhart in Presence he came to know his True Self. He knew himself, life, and the world, in a whole new way.

He has degrees in engineering and philosophy and went on to work as an engineer in the corporate world for several years where he practiced presence in the work place.

Brendon’s outer purpose was revealed to him while attending a retreat with Eckhart Tolle in Costa Rica in 2004. His outer purpose is to help awaken consciousness on the planet. A key tool is utilizing the power of the internet and technology. Since then he has taught yoga, meditation, sleep workshops and given satsang online and offline.

After hearing his student’s repeated requests for yoga poses and meditations to help them sleep better he decided to focus on providing sleep classes to address this all-to-common problem. He is excited to study sleep research and apply a unique body, mind, spirit approach to sleep problems that are often only addressed on the level of the body.

Brendon has just launched a new website to provide advice and education on how to overcome your sleep problems. You will learn techniques based on his experience of working with Eckhart and his teachings. This will help you get a good night’s sleep tonight and every night. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was diagnosed with REM Behavioral Disorder in 2004. I have been struggling with my sleep since I was very young. I loved listening to this podcast. I really learned a lot. I have been applying what I learned while listening and already it helped. I appreciate all that you all do!

    • Greg says:

You’re so welcome Kelly! So glad you loved this podcast and found some gems that you can use. I really encourage people to meditate right before going to sleep to see how that helps. For a long time I would meditate for twenty minutes before going to sleep and would crawl right from my meditation bench (at the foot of the bed) to right under the covers… and I experienced such a beautiful and nourishing sleep. Thanks so much for your comments! Greg

  2. Hello Greg & Leo:
Thanks so much for having The Sleep Guru on your show. I’ve never heard of “the state” of truiya (the 4th state), or the formless “state” that he spoke of. Three years ago as I began writing my first book this is exactly what happened to me. The more I wrote, the more I woke up. Living Mindfully has changed my life.

Life is truly amazing when we live consciously and think on purpose.
    Thanks of all you do.

    Hi Greg,
I just opened your website at midnight tonight because I was having trouble sleeping. I tried to open up your podcast with Brendon Lumgair about getting a good night’s sleep. I was unable to get the podcast to work. I am laughing at my situation but still happy to know that this helpful website is available, just not possible for me tonight. I’m happy to see you have this wonderful web site available to everyone who has found Tolle and his wonderful voice of reason.
I have moved to San Diego so I am not able to attend your talks in LA at this time but until I see you again, I hope this finds you, your wife and child happy and sleeping well. :)

    Hi Greg,
Unable to play/ download the podcast.
    Please help.

    • Greg says:

So sorry about that Avadhut. We are working to update the website and make these older episodes available again. Thank you for your patience. Greg

  5. Jen says:

    Hi there,

I would love to listen to this podcast as I am a fan of Eckhart Tolle’s teachings and have always had problems sleeping. Would it be possible to put a transcript on your website? Or alternatively find a link that works?

    Thanking you in anticipation,

  6. NP says:

As mentioned earlier this topic really speaks to me as I want to become more conscious in my life and really improve my sleep problem (which I believe is mainly due to an overactive mind and sleep anxiety). Is there another link for the podcast? Also, the Sleep Guru website link does not work.
