Hello, I just discovered your podcasts and I’m really enjoying them. Listening to them has helped bring me back to the present moment and has been such a great follow up to Tolle’s webinar with Oprah. Thank you.
My question is…I seem to be able to remain in the present moment when a crisis arises or something needs my urgent attention. My brother passed away last October at the age of 42 and I was surprised at the level of peace I experienced when I accepted his passing. I occassionally have moments when I resist his death and I suffer briefly before I remember to become present and accept what is happening in this moment. My struggles mostly deal with the day to day stuff. It’s the little things that easily distract me from the present moment and activiate my pain body. I do things that I know aren’t good for me; like zoning out in front of the computer, eating unhealthy things and drinking wine on the weekends that brings me below thought and makes me unconscious. Though I am aware when I’m doing this, I choose to do it anyway (even though I know how it will make me feel afterwards). How can I firmly keep myself anchored in the present moment, so that, when I see myself wanting to bring myself below thought (with food, wine, etc), I won’t fall into my old behaviors.
I would love to listen to a podcast on this topic. Thank you very much for keeping Tolle’s teachings alive.

Thanks Jennifer and I’m glad to hear you feel the podcast is a great follow up to the Oprah/Tolle webinar!
I understand your situation quite well! My ego and pain-body seem to have zeroed in on food also, since this is something I cannot abstain from.
I have a video on Youtube that speaks specifically to this challenge.

Ultimately, what we focus on expands, so the practice would be to be in acceptance of these distractions and then continue to focus on the aliveness of the moment, the aliveness of your body. Trying to “drop it” does not work. Eckhart also states that it does not work and that the solution is to focus our attention on the feeling of aliveness within the body (the inner-body) and grow in presence power.
You keep yourself anchored in the moment by allowing the moment to anchor you. Invite presence into your life at a deeper level and it begin showing up in your life as they anchor or grounding presence that you are looking for. All the best on your journey!
